Transportation

Residents of Coon Rapids work in the city, Minneapolis, St. Paul or surrounding communities, which are all easily accessible by car or public transportation. The city is connected to the metro by U.S. Highway 10 and Minnesota Highway 610 for quick access to other highways and interstates, allowing residents to reach most destinations within 25 minutes.

The Northstar Commuter train makes 12 stops in Coon Rapids during weekdays and six during weekends, providing a relaxing 25 minute ride to downtown Minneapolis. The rail line offers service between Big Lake and downtown Minneapolis.

Additionally, Metro Transit provides express and regular bus service within and outside the city. The Anoka County Airport supports more than 68,000 takeoffs and landings annually on its two runways of 5,000 feet by 100 feet and 4,855 feet by 100 feet. The airport is the base of 407 aircraft. A freight rail of BNSF Railway runs through Coon Rapids, connecting the Twin Cities to North Dakota.

The Anoka County Traveler operates fixed routes through the metro.

Additional Proposed Rail Service

Northern Lights Express Passenger Rail service is proposed to run from Minneapolis to Duluth. A station is proposed in Coon Rapids at the Foley Boulevard Park and Ride station.
