Mission

Skating School Instructor helping young skaterThe mission of the Coon Rapids Ice Center Skating School is to provide a friendly, comfortable and fun learning environment for skaters of all ages and abilities to learn the basics of ice skating.

We use a science-based approach to teach the fundamentals of balance and edge control. We use our knowledge of bio-mechanics and sports science to help each skater reach his or her full potential on the ice.

We offer a goal-oriented program that provides incentive and encouragement to keep skaters motivated.

Group Lessons

Group lessons are offered beginning each September, January, and June for figure and hockey skaters ages four and up of all abilities. For the advanced skater, free skate classes, specialty classes (spins, jumps, edges), practice pods and off-ice classes are also available, along with semi-private or private lessons.

Professional Instruction

Students are taught by certified instructors trained in the SkateSafe program under the direction of Skating School Director Karen Meck, who is a Professional Skaters Association (PSA) master-rated coach. Coon Rapids Skating School is a proud member of Learn to Skate USA, offering Learn to Skate USA lessons for skaters of all ages and abilities.

Ice Shows

The winter lesson session culminates with the production of the annual Ice Fantasy Skating Show held the last weekend of April. A separate registration for the annual ice show is required. Registration for returning skaters is due in December. New skaters must register by January.
