Chelsee Hasselbring started her career as a tiny dancer at the age of 3 when her mother, Bobbie Disrud opened the doors to the Fancy Dancin’ studio 31 years ago. Disrud had a long history of dancing and teaching.
Growing up in a world filled with dance, Hasselbring naturally inherited her mom’s passion and danced her entire life. Instead of following orders from an instructor to choreograph her routines, Hasselbring paved her own way as a young choreographer and did very well at her competitions. Shortly after graduating high school, she put her talents to good use working for her mom’s dance studio. She considers herself a mentor to young kids that are eager to learn and work hard. Just as Hasselbring watched her mom teach dance classes, now her daughter is following in the same footsteps as a 3rd generation Fancy Dancer.
Dance is an activity that provides children with a creative outlet, exercise, a chance to cheer on their friends and to accomplish new goals. Hasselbring and the other instructors at Fancy Dancin’ help students reach a variety of goals: whether it be to build up their self-confidence, coordination or stage presence, or to compete in regional and national competitions. No matter the end result, the instructors at Fancy Dancin’ believe working with a team and pushing toward individual goals builds character that can last a lifetime. Each spring, every dancer also showcases their hard work on stage at the annual recital.
Fancy Dancin’ has adapted well to the challenges of COVID-19. The studio is spacious, which allows for safe social distancing, and parents and siblings of dancers must now watch from the hallway instead of being in the studio during practices.
Hasselbring invites the Coon Rapids community to check out their studio, “Our teachers love teaching dance, it is our passion. We put in a lot of hours for these kids and we do everything we can to keep this a safe place to keep them dancing.”
