Construction of Addition Underway at CRMS

A major construction project is underway at Coon Rapids Middle School.

The 8,000 square foot addition will include three, extra-large science classrooms and two, regular sized classrooms. The middle school is near capacity with 1,600 students currently enrolled. And according to Tom Shaw, the principal at Coon Rapids Middle School, this building addition will give the school the space it needs to grow with the community.

"Right around Coon Rapids there are a lot of projects going up for more housing,” said Shaw.  “And we have to be ready for that, and the district is looking ahead in time and not only taking care of our current needs with updated science facilities, making us more competitive, but also really looking into the future so that we can really serve our community and the needs of our families."

The project's part of the Fit for the Future plan which voters approved in 2017. The $3.2 million middle school addition is scheduled to be completed before the start of the 2022-23 school year.
